What Burgher, Burgher collects when you use this website, why, and who helps us handle it, in plain English.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
What we collect
- When you sign up for the free video or the newsletter: your email address, and your first name if the form asks for it.
- When you book a class or register interest in the Burgher table: your name, your email, and the details you give us, such as whether you’d like to join online or in person, your suburb or city, your preferred session, your group size and any message.
- When you contact us: your name, your email, a phone number if you choose to give one, and your message.
- Automatically, like most websites: basic technical details about your visit (such as your IP address and browser) are recorded by the services that run the site, listed below.
We don’t take payments on this website, so we don’t collect card or bank details here.
Why we collect it
- The free video: so you can sign up to watch it, and so we can email you when it’s ready. Signing up also puts you on our newsletter list.
- The newsletter: to send you news about the song, the classes and Burgher culture.
- Class bookings and the Burgher table: to reply to you, arrange dates and run the class or dinner.
- Contact messages: to answer your question.
We use your details for these reasons only.
Who handles your details
We use a few other services to run the website. They handle your details on our behalf, and each has its own privacy policy. Some may store or process information outside Australia.
- Sender.net is our email service. It holds our newsletter and free-video lists and sends our emails.
- Formspree delivers form submissions (class bookings, register-interest requests and contact messages) to us by email. If Sender is unavailable when you sign up, your sign-up may be emailed to us through Formspree instead.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- YouTube (part of Google) plays the videos embedded on The Song page and the free video page.
- Google Fonts supplies the website’s fonts. Loading them sends your IP address to Google.
Cookies
- Sender: its script runs on our pages and may use cookies or similar technology to recognise visitors and to make its sign-up forms work.
- YouTube: we embed videos in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which YouTube says doesn’t store information about visitors unless they play the video. Once you press play, YouTube may set cookies.
We don’t run advertising or analytics tools of our own on this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, though some forms or videos may not appear.
Unsubscribe, or ask for your details to be removed
- To unsubscribe: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails.
- To ask what we hold about you, or to have your details removed: email hello@srilankanburghers.com. We’ll remove them from our email list and our records.
